WEE TINY REC'D

cute mail today. i rec'd my wee tiny sock 2008 from the swap. my knitter was beth of lorna's laces yarn. she made the cutest sock out of her sock yarn in shadow. this was the first yarn she had ever cast on with lorna's laces when she was looking to purchase the business. how cool is that? a mini sock with history!

thank's beth..i love it!

WEE TINY 2008

MY contribution to the WEE TINY SOCK SWAP 2008 . my pal appears to like things that are quirky and retro. what could be more retro than a bobby sock?

DIFFERENT YARNS..

GIVE different looks.
from barbara walker vol 2 the morning glory design for my ISE 6 pal's scarf. someone else that did this design made reference to the fact that it looks or works better in a softer yarn.
hence this in knit picks shadow yarn , color : lost lake.
morning glory
frankly, i'm just not feeling the love. it is soft and drapey..but the whole design even if it wre blocked doesn't quite cut it.onto a new yarn. shibui knits purchased from the loopy ewe shibui knits in seaweed.
morning glory 2
what a difference even unblocked and now we're feeling the love. :)

i will still knit the first one..it will make a nice toss around scarf for weather that isn't too cold. wish i could clone myself ..more hands mean more knits.

think spring

it's time for a swap..a spring themed INTERNATIONAL SCARF EXCHANGE swap.

although it's hard to think of spring when we were buried under a snow storm today.. looks like a sugary white winter wonderland outside my window.

good weather to knit in though..

i have sivia harding's MOONSHADOW stole on the needles x 2. one in dream in color smooshy and baby yarns.. and one in a lace weight i just started.

love the pretty beads..from earthfaire of course..megatamas on the dream in color (smooshy in beach fog and baby in blue lagoon) from the loopy ewe and size 11/0 on the grey lace one. too bad more designers don't create some designs with beads..they really add a nice touch of sparkely to the mix. lately though i am finding that some designers i like are just pushing out stitch designs from their stitch dictionaries and not really "designing" anything...or one piece looks like another...i can do that too so i'll make up my own and add my beads to them myself. my new goal..to knit smarter..why purchase stitch reference books then pay someone else to put one on paper??????

TOO MUCH OF A GOOD THING

NOT ENOUGH OF A GOOD THING

it's sivia harding's MOONSHADOW STOLE . I didn't have a large enough cable to spread it out so it's all scruntched on my needles. worked lengthwise it gives you long rows to just sit and enjoy the knitting. the beads give it such a sparkely feminine feeling. the long edge gives you those adorable scallops i love. the short edge gives you little wing-y type things. this will be a lovely gift for xmas. :)

my mojo is back!

lost my knitting mojo for a few days..it's kind of like summer here in my area..here today, gone tomorrow only to show up again the 3rd or fourth day.

made me think of fall and the pretty colors in the surrounding mountains i can see from my windows when fall really gets a grip on the area.

i saw a design someone is writing up and fell in love with the st pattern. also had some yarn beckoning from a closet every so softly. it got me to thinking. knitting was in a slump. nothing i have to work on felt good. the love seat holds seceral cast ons that i ripped from the needles. but that design someone else is working on really needed to be mine. and financially i'm less than stable. if i tried to purchase every pattern i see and want i'd not have anything left. so this time i was frugal and reached into the closte and pulled out that beckoning yarn. and gave someone else's idea a go.
i LOVE the look of unblocked lacey designs. and the way the colors migrate through this piece are perfect for a fall wrap. here it is a little bit pinned out. the yarn is so busy i decided a fancy edging didn't look good so i ripped it out and put a plain simple textured edging.

knitting mojo in place..check

simple pattern..check

cute scalloped edge..check

colorful yarn ...check. now i'll be ready for that first cool morning with a warm colorful wrap around my shoulders. and that makes the signs that summer is ending easier to deal with. :)

WHAT A GAL!!

IN THE DISHRAG TAG WE AT TEAM POST knITS HAVE ONE HECK OF A TEAM PLAYER.
it's LAURA from INDIANA. check out her blog post here :TAG . somehow i don't think this was what emily had in mind when she and her hubby came up with the dishrag tag relay race. the lengths and dangers poor laura had to go to just for a dishcloth! but what a team player. and her honerary team member of a honey is such a doll to have helped a nutty bunch of knitters keep in the race. way to go you 2! leave laura a nice comment..i think she can use all the knitterly hugs she can get right now.

TENSE MOMENTS

we've all had them..right? and the DISHRAG TAG from emily is no exception to the rule. our box...from team POST knITS ws temporarily MISROUTED!!! but alas all is well. the box found it's way to team mate felicia. we can all breathe again. :)

it's a tight race.the knitters are anxious..widgets and forums checked throughout the day...

what's a nervous knitter to do between checking results???

getting my DOG DAYS OF SUMMER swap package ready. check..

wrapping everything up..check..

hurry to the post office..uncheck. have to wait for a phone call..drats..

like someone actually thinks i like talking to people. ha..they make caller id, answering machines and ringtone shut offs for a reason. i use all 3. a lot. sleeping in? shut off the ringer, turn down the answering machine. want to do complicated lace..turn on the tv and the caller id shows up there....and i can decide if i need to be disturbed.

want to go outside..turn on the answering machine.

honey coming for a visit...unplug the modem no calls at all. today though..i have to answer every call. stuck inside on a beautiful day. what a waste. or not.

digging through stash found some yarn that is this side of ugly...and the vegie matter..never have i seen anything like this. every few inches there is something sticking out. something spun right into the yarn. it's like the farmers version of red heart worsted. but..even fugly yarn has a use..and this will probably wear like iron. so i took a pattern that is supposed to be done is a soft, lovely, drapey sport weight and modified it enough to use with this yarn.

it's the OBSTACLES SHAWL from knitspot designs. anne's catalogue can be found here designs . this will make a nice thick wrap to wear outside come the blustery fall weather. sometimes fugly can be turned into a swan.

SLOW AND STEADY

IS SOMETIMES the only way to go.

with over 6000 people internationally knitting the MYSTERY STOLE 3 some how i doubt anyone will miss the fact that i am, as Bonnie Marie puts it so eloquently, A SLOW BEE.

SO FAR i have yarn, black silk from COLOURMART and shiney black megatamas from Ellen . rome wasn't built in a day and neither shall my stole find itself racing to a finish line. but it's a start. ;)

GOTHIC LEAF STOLE REDUX

I COULD NOT STAND the way this piece was..and i am starved for lace knitting. so i ripped it back and started it on smaller needles. size 5US. the color isn't true..it's aqua euroflax linen from my stash. the beads are teal lined lavender from earthfaire . looks wonky since it's linen yarn, but ripping it back and reknitting it gives you a hint of just how soft and lovely linen is when washed.

gothic leaf stole redux

the pattern is the GOTHIC LEAF stole from sivia harding . love her designs. :) and this is perfect to work on in between a huge project that was commissioned and making me nutso. ;)

DOG DAYS OF SUMMER questionaire

Do you knit, or crochet, or do both? How long have you been knitting\crocheting? i do both but more knit now. crocheting for about 6 yrs and knitting about 2 1/2

Have you knit dishcloths or dishtowels before? oh yeah. it's a great way to try different stitch patterns out with minimum effort and instant gratification

What are your favorite cotton yarns? Is there a cotton or linen you’ve been dying to try but have not? i love sport weight cotton. it's easier on the hands and makes a better cloth for me. i've been really wanting to try knitpicks cotlin or the euroflax sport linen. i've only used the lace linen and loved it.

Are there any cotton yarns you don’t enjoy knitting with? i use the standard peaches and cream or sugar and cream since others like it. but it's not my fave to knit with. i just like the colors. :)

What type of needle do you prefer using? (Metal/Wood/Plastic) metal

What other projects do you enjoy knitting or crocheting? lace all the way. shawls..scarfs and now socks. it's like an addiction although i can't seem to keep track of my dpns so i always have to pick up more. somewhere there are lots of dpns lurking in the various paces i've lived.(like right now.the only full set i can find are 6s and 3s.) since last year i really like knitting with beads on my lace.

Do you have other hobbies or enjoy other kinds of crafting? i sew...sculpt with clay. just picked up quilling. orgami. love to make crocheted or sewn bags. and i really like zakka style crafts. that's all this week. ;)

What kind of treats do you like? Chocolate? Candies? Nuts? chocolate.doesn't everyone?!?

What colors are your kitchen and bath decorated in, if any? kitchen doesn't really have a color scheme..i have wicker and handmade birdhouses and color from those so it's a mish mash of things and colors. the bath is soft pink and a little magenta and white. very girly ;)

What are your favorite colors and what colors do you dislike? i really don't care for red orange or yellow. but love pinks and orchid, rusts and nuetrals and various shades of sage greens.

Do you drink coffee? Tea? Other beverages? coffee, but not as much as i used to. tea..especially iced in summer and love fruit flavored teas.

Do you have any kids (human or pet variety!)? nope

Do you have any allergies? anything herbal, flowery smelling items. and alpaca and nuts.

Please share 3 tidbits about yourself that you think your pal and other swappers might find odd or interesting. i collect birdhouses or birdhouse related..and buttons, especially vintage ones and things like ribbons and beads to embellish my projects and anything miniature .

i ALWAYS start my lace projects on bryspuns or wood/bamboo needles to get the hang of a new pattern..then get totally frustrated with how it slows me up and switch over to metal. can we say impatient?

most of what i have in my apt that is decorative is handmade. paintings from my mom..her birdhouses...or miniature things including boxes. i love boxes and containers of all kinds. helps me get a spartan feel and look to my place and still allow me to collect clutter. ;)

KNITTERS TEA SWAP 3

FINALLY...finally..i get a minute to post on my lovely package from my pal ida.

first there was a hardy black wake up in th morning tea and a cinnamon spice tea. that last one has already been tried. right after the brakes went out on my honey's vehicle while we were out of town. soon as i got in i made a cup of tea in my new big pink flowered cup. it's perfect. i LOVE big cups and now i can have one dedicated only to tea.

and yarn... lovely TREKKING XXL in color 78 to mke a moneky out of me..i mean FOR me. and 2 skeins of gorgeous angora/silk blend
and then there was chocolate..yummy dark minted chocolate. also good with tea after a white knuckle ride home without all brakes working properly.
there was also a nice bigger style pad of postit notes and a lavender pen to keep track of where i am on patterns..always a good thing for me since i tend to scribble stuff on charts and patterns and never can figure out what i meant. ;) and 2 delightful candles that are floating somewhere around here. thanks ida was the nice swap.
